Hi everyone! Hope the semester is going well for all of you so far. We’ve had a variety of activities in CSEC the past couple weeks including talks and workshops. This is a recap of that and a preview of what’s coming up soon.
Our meetings up to now have included a variety of talks and the hardware workshop. We had intro talks and demos from Wittner (@WittsEnd2) and some of the club officers. Last week, we had a more advanced talk from TheBlindHacker on offensive security tool development. The recordings from these talks can be found on our Discord server.
A couple weeks ago, we ran a hardware workshop. This involved some privilege escalation on Raspberry Pis and working with anti-tampering tape. We didn’t record the workshop itself, but the slides are on the Discord.
This week’s meeting is a talk by John Hammond on Camoflauge Malware Analysis. We also have other fun meetings planned, including a lockpicking workshop later on in the school year. There also are a variety of CTFs coming up, most importantly CCDC and UMDCTF itself. We’ll be sending out the interest form for CCDC soon, so keep an eye out for that. UMDCTF is likely to be sometime in the spring, and we’re planning on starting to look for challenge developers soon.
We’re also almost done setting up our club lab in AV Williams, which will be open to members to work on CTFs whenever any of the officers are there!
